The finale of my 8 year journey.

Its started late in the year of 2008, I was the shy students ( As it was my first time entering school). Knowing nothing except 1+1, It has certain been a ride ever since. Well 8 Years later, I have left the PBS after they have made the student I am today ( Which I am Grateful for). The long hard 8 years have had many exciting events ( Like, the Waitakere Ranges walk and many other wonderful trips). Now, I shall move on to college without the guidance of my amazing teacher ( Mrs Anderson, Ms Kirkpatrick and etc...). Thank you to Panmure Bridge School for Creating the student I am and all of the friends that I've gained in this 8 year journey ( Thanks to Ana, Cecillia, Sebastian, John and many others😃).P.S: As I was writing this I began to cry because of the beautiful memories I had at the school which I called safe 2/3 of my life.

Summer Learning Journey: Bullfighting

Image result for Bullfighting

Bullfighting 2 reasons:

I personally think Bullfighting should stop because of these two reasons.

Reason 1:
Bullfighting has injured or even more worse, caused deaths. You may like the entertainment but for what cost. We might lose nothing but the matadors might.

Reason 2:
The Matadors put their life on the line. Bulfighting are a risky sport. Matador could inspire young kids to do this sport. Worst case scenario: A young child try to fight a bull, bad things could happen to the kid.

Day 2: Summer Learning Journey

I've finally started Day 2 of the Summer Learning Journey ( Don't worry, I will be doing Week 1's bonus activity in 1 blog post). Anyways, this is my DLO about the 5 questions of your  country capital city ( In my case, Tokyo). You would be asked 5 questions about your capital city.

Summer Learning Journey Day 1:

Yesterday ( Despite  this was finished  on Saturday  I had no time).  I finished my 1 official activity of the Summer Learning Journey.  The task was to find 3 facts about your country ( In my case, I chose Japan).

Week 1 Day 1: Choosing my Destination?

Image result for Japan

This Summer Learning Journey, I have decided to pick Japan as the country I will be learning about this learning journey. My previous Summer Learning Journey, I picked Germany. I have picked Japan as it provides me alot of information but also learning about their culture, languages they speak and many more. My goal this journey is to surpass my tally of blog post of 12 last year.

Summer Learning Journey:

Summer Learning Journey

On Tuesday, my school will be finished ( But that doesn't mean I can start this amazing journey). If you have not been here since the beginning of 2016 or the Term 2 holidays. This Journey usually  takes 2-4 weeks. I'm participating in this event as prepares me for the future but also makes my mind train it self ( I know it does not make sense).  My goal this time, is to make sure I post up everyday but also comment on 10 blogs ( As well).

Graduation 2016:

On the cold night of a Wednesday, the year 8's were  busy dancing and having fun at the Pakuranga Sailing Club. It was a blast, watching everyone have fun but also talk to fellow pupils about other topics. Thank you to Ms Kirkpatrick, Mr Johnston, Mrs Anderson and the board of trustees for creating this event. I worked with John to create this short movie.

Rockets

Today,  LS2 had their second full day at Tamaki College to create Rockets. Mr Dunn and Mrs Ferguson made sure we had created our rockets and launch it into the air.  Most of us had finished our rockets and waiting to launch it but some people ( Like me, I needed to finish off my rocket and many other people).   Almost every group Rocket launched into the sky, with the help of Mr Dunn's drone, we captured footage of the rocket launched with the help of camera's we got most of the photos/videos we needed. One of the key points of the day was Sajiha's group rocket which flew high into the sky to never be seen ( Its familiar to what happened to Carrot). Thank you to Mr Dunn and Mrs Ferguson for creating such a magnificent 2 days of Rockets.

Trip to Tahuna Torea Reserve:

Yesterday,  the Senior school went to the Tahuna Torea  Reserve. Last year, we unfortunately didn't have our school picnic due to terrible weather condition. Luckily, with the money we had already put in for the trip. We used that money to go to the Tahuna Torea Reserve in Glendowie. Room 5, LS1 and LS2 spent 2 hours at the reserve learning about the Godwit/Kuaka's habitat. Thank you to Mrs Anderson, Mr Ogilvie, Mrs Kirkpatrick and everyone who had fun!

Rocket Technology:

Last week, LS2 stayed at Tamaki College for the entire day to create rockets.  We created straw rockets to measure our distance. It was really fun to see everyone collaborating and creating their own rockets.  We spent half of the day learning and creating straw rockets meanwhile the other half was filled with fun and excitement. In the afternoon we were in the midst of creating our very own rocket ( Or team rocket). We all learned about what will happen this Friday about our rocket being launched into the sky. Mr Dunn had created his own rocket but it had backfired. However, Mrs Ferguson 3D printed rocket named "Carot" flew in the sky to the point where it disappeared into the sky never to be seen again. Hopefully each rocket, flies high above the cloud.

Rockets

Last Friday, LS2 spent a full day at Tamaki College creating rockets. Mr Dunn and Mrs Ferguson organised this day. We all worked hard to create our straw rockets. However, we wrote a hypothesis about what will happen to our rocket ( A good or bad result). It was a fun day, and we hope to finish off most of our work this Friday.

Letter to our old self ( Reply):

Dear (Past) Pote,

It is really hard to know if I past two of the the goals ( Maths and Dux).  I feel like this year has gone really fast, with its up and downs.  We’ve worked hard to become a team player and not trying to not focus on yourself.  I understand that we might not entered a large amount of competitions but we did enter a variety of sports ( like Touch, Basketball and many more).  I’m guessing we will figure out when the day that our reports and Prizegiving will give us that information ( in 2-3 weeks time).

PBS Athletics Day:

Friday was a very mixed day.  Fun and cold usually doesn't mix together but today was different ( Really Different!). With Mr. M  as our MC ( Mr. MC) and Mr. Ogilvie controlling the event, the day was destined to be a success. A group of Tamaki College students joined us for the day to make sure every class/Year group understood the activity.

White Ribbon Day:

White Ribbon Day was held this Friday all around New Zealand. The white ribbon mean stopping Violence against women. This year, volunteers hand out the ribbon ( which is connected to a card showing their pledge and wanting you  (or the person who received the card to share their knowledge they just learned about).

Hockey:

On Thursday, the LS2 year 8's were focused on dribbling and juggling this session. This week, we had Carly as our instructor. We unfortunately did not finish the session we hoped for due to a fire drill but we all learned to the basics ( the pupils who was absent learned all of the skills this session).

Hockey

Image result for Hockey Logo

Today, everyone in LS2 was having fun and swinging their all around the ground. It was a great session with our two coaches  ( Sorry, but I didn't find out what are the names to the new coaches). We juggled the ball but also dribbled our hockey ball around the ground by playing a Traffic-Light game.  For our last game we played a casual 1v1 (all the way up to 5v5) which were set up into two teams. We all had fun ( we were all put into 2 sessions).

Operation: Eagle Swoop

Operation: Eagle Swoop
Screenshot 2016-11-15 at 9.48.55 AM.png
It was cold as usual. Nothing exciting about the weather here. ‘Cold Hell,’ is what the locals call it. Mondays, are the worst as we were getting ready to leave for the beaches of the cold south. It was the first time we have ever got a day like this. Every winter, it’s either helping a stranded citizen escape their car or someone has been sucked into the fearless waters.

“SSSSHHHH!” the helicopter zoomed across the sea. The hair of the ocean was elegant yet rough with boulders laid all around her.

“Unit 935, please report to homebase when you reach the location of a capsized boat.”

Everything had looked strange but familiar as if I had been far out at sea. Our biggest enemy, the never ending blue hair still spreads.

“ Home base , we have made it to the location.”

The captain of the helicopter mumbled as the helicopter propellers made a louder sound and made him sound like a rat.

“ You guys had better be ready. From our intel it is known that there is a group of people who have  been stucked at sea for two days. Their boat capsized and they  been stranded out in the middle of nowhere for what feels to them like an eternity!“ Screamed the Captain.
Time just kept ticking by ...

Who flew first?

This week for Reading, Ms. Kirkpatrick set us with another text to read (That is related to Flight). The text was all about Richard Pearse but also if he flew before the Wright Brothers. Supposedly, Pearse flew before the Wright Brothers ( By a couple of months). I worked with John to see what our opinion about who was the 1st to reach the sky by control.

Bar Tailed Godwit:

Today, with the Cooperation of Sebastian and Harry we have finished out Popplet/DLO about the Bar Tailed Godwit/Kuaka ( Kuaka is the maori translation for Godwit). This was our first challenge for our first topic from Mrs Anderson (For 4 weeks the Year 8's worked with Ms. Kirkpatrick and the Year 7 with Mrs Anderson). It was a really fun task despite me working on other topics.

Manaiakalani Film Festival:

This week( Sorry for finishing late, I was watching all of the movies to know what each school had created), Panmure Bridge and 11 other schools created amazing movies to showcase around the world from their blogs filled with quality blog posts. I've created a DLO about the trip to Sylvia Park.

Manaiakalani Film Festival Comments:

Today, the entire school was impatient to watch a selection of school's movie which is being showcased around the world. It was a very fun time with everyone. Now, we have commented on the movies we liked ( Or other movies from schools you haven't seen).

Hyperbole DLO:

45 minutes before the best 2 hours of my year, I had begun and finished a DLO all about Hyperbole. Each writing group was assigned 2 sheets where we learned about this new weird word ( It was very strange at first). I had learned all about this word today, because I had left my class during maths but also during the research ( of finding out what is Hyperbole is).

Paper-Plane Measurement:

Today,  the entire class of LS2 was involved and participating in an another activity of paper planes. Continuing from last week, we used our old paper planes and created a new paper plane by combining all of our designs into creating one ultimate paper plane. Each group had their "team plane" and threw their team plane the furthest . Every group watched every thrower (One from each group) throw their paper plane as far as they could.

Recounts:

Today, as part of the writing. Mrs Anderson set us up to search the internet and discover work from fellow pupils in the cluster.  I specifically looked for excellent pieces of writing from Glenbrae. Most specifically the Year 7/8 Class(s).  I used one blog as a example to see great structure. We all did a Recount quiz to test our knowledge of how good our memory is about Recounts.

Measurement Activity:

While it was hot and burning, the LS2's pupils decided to create paper planes and analyse the information/ measure how far the plane would go depending on what type  (They had used).
Mrs Anderson set us a silent challenge, Mrs Anderson showed all the groups their task without speaking ( She played videos to make sure that the groups knew what their task was). Even those I joined this experiment while the paper plane craze was happening, I did get to create a paper plane but also use another plane to see the difference of the planes. All these photos in the collage represent a certain way or the process of the experiment.  In 1 photo, you can see a group of people working together to see which one each person and create their own paper plane ( Depending on what they chose). The others show, a person testing their plane and is about to make it fly! In the last two photos, it shown that they are throwing their airplane and testing how far it can go. Most of the these photos are from my group and the last one ( The photo on the bottom right) is used to show another angle and way people threw their paper plane from.  Mrs Anderson set us a silent challenge,

During the weekend, I had a interest in learning about Albert Einstein. I created a DLO ( put into two parts) about this famous German Scientist which changed the world forever. I found this information by using Wikipedia and Britannica.

Cybertsmart DLO:

Today, I'm showcasing my DLO about Pennsylvania. I used my new shortcuts and methods to make my work without using Wikipedia (Only the photos). I tried to find out about by Pennsylvania by using 3 questions. I answered the 3 questions in this DLO.

Fast Facts Collection

Today for reading, my reading group was working on a DLO about the Wright Brothers. We were using a new "System". We have 3 more texts to learn about. We have to finish all of these texts by next week.

Bird Movement:

MOV01310 from Bronwyn Eeles on Vimeo.

Last week ( I just want to post this today because I had fun) we were creating dance move mimicking a bird movement. We watched a video as inspiration and also photos. I loved this session because I had lots of fun.  Credit is due to Mrs Eeles for taking this Magnificent footage.

Music ( Dance) with Mrs Eeles:

MOV01354 from Bronwyn Eeles on Vimeo.
For Music ( I mean Dance), The LS2 Year 8's performed a  dance that was solely based off  the shape/size of a feather. My Group was first to perform and we used a Blue Jay's feather( As in: doing the shape and patterns from the feather). I credit this video to Mrs Eeles who allowed me to use this video.

Narrrative: Leap of Faith

Leap of Faith:
It was a weird feeling. Something wanted to possess my body and showcase my real potential. “ Well, that’s something Ezio, Daniel or Jack would say.” I proclaimed. “ See i’m the, what u call it the chicken of the family.”
“John, Ezio, Daniel and Jack, Its time!” Cecillia screamed as a echo blasted through out my neighbourhood.

“ We’re coming now!”We all sang in unison. It was a crazy feeling, My dad was gifted the nickname, Killer bee. Why? Well, I don’t know the entire story because he passed away a long time ago but from listening to  those nanas talking about him being the fastest, the most coolest and also the most Beautiful man they ever saw. I pondered about it. I wasn’t the best, Ezio was the best at flapping his wing so that counts. I’m sure I ain’t the fastest and the coolest, but I do know who is the most handsomest owl in our Neighbourhood (It’s ME!!!!!). My siblings and I were always fighting over who will get the large worm for dinner. Unfortunately, I never won but I was always smart to trade items to get food ( Thinking about it now, I was blessed and cursed). It was a killing addiction for me, to eat the large worm. I would do anything for it. Sorry, getting off track about what’s happening in my life. Well let’s continue in the real world and not the stuff I remember.

We waited for 5 Hours! Sure, it wasn’t a day nor even 10 hours, but still it felt like I was watching those Romantic Movies  that Daniel started recently watching at Movie night (We all knew that the guy will fall in love with the girl). It was such a waste of time of just utterly boredom that I wanted to just go sleep and continue tomorrow. Well I suppose it was a good time, I had seen like a baker’s dozen of some weird  creatures holding a weird object in their arms. Hopefully its can shoot out ducks or worms so I can finally eat and don’t feel like I want to sleep; I think they’re trying to look for some food as well( Good or bad). They don’t even seem to look at us as we just freeze like possums at headlights ( I hope I didn’t say it wrong). I felt Anxious watching Ezio fly like a hawk ( Wait, doesn’t hawks eat owls, *Gulp*).

“Daniel, its your turn to show everyone who’s the best family in the Neighbourhood!” Ezio Screamed as all the spectators laughed like clowns. Now, that I could be alone by myself. I started to cry like a baby. Everyone would laugh at me for dishonouring my heritage or family. Being a son of a Legend and you having high expectations I felt Anxious to the point I wanted to join those creatures with their ugly objects ( whatever they’re holding in the air like lunatics) and see what they’re looking for.  Ezio walked into the dark room. Proud of his accomplishments.

“ John, you feeling alright, Bro?” Ezio asked as he walked closer to me.

“ Well for instances, I don’t know how to fly and also if I screw up, I will be a known for destroying my family heritage and destroy my friendships with all of you.” I replied as a big puddle of tears beginning  drip onto my body.

“No you won’t Bro, Mum told me that dad failed when he was a owlet. Everyone mocked him for a long until he stood up (I mean Metaphorically speaking) and flew like how the flash runs on those TV shows mum talks about.” Ezio said while cheering me up.

30 Minutes later:

“ John its your turn to fly to that tree where your mother is standing!” A owl shouted. I felt so prepared because of Ezio excellent prep talk. I guess Ezio wasn’t only the fastest but also seems like he is down to earth. What a generous person. *VRRRRMM*! I fly like a jet to my mother; I see a weird shape heading towards me. “Oh No! Someone please help me.” Cecilliascreamed. All I saw was a parliament of owls flying to the scene. I felt like I wasn’t going to survive. I guess I was wrong.

Read Theory:

This year LS2 have been using Read Theory as a tool to assist us and learn new words to use in our writing. I have done 261 Quizzes! I have felt really happy with myself because I have learned to use new words but also find new ways of writing.
